Classification of Ribbons
1) Classification by Material
Nylon / Polyester / PP Polypropylene / Acrylic / Cotton / Polyester / Gold and Silver Onion / Spandex / Luminous Silk / Rayon, etc.
Differentiation between Nylon and PP Ribbons: Generally, Nylon ribbons are woven first and then dyed, so the color of the thread may appear white after being cut due to uneven coloring. However, PP ribbons are dyed first and then woven, so the thread won't turn white. Nylon ribbons are shinier and softer compared to PP ribbons. They can also be distinguished through chemical reactions when burned. Nylon ribbons are generally more expensive than PP ribbons.
Polyester ribbons are softer and have no shine.
Acrylic ribbons are made of a combination of Polyester and Cotton.
Cotton ribbons are generally more expensive.
2) Classification by Weaving Method
Flat, diagonal, satin, and miscellaneous weaves (PP ribbons, such as flat, rippled, diagonal, safety, pitted, beaded and jacquard ribbons, can be further divided by the thickness of their strandes, such as 900D, 1200D, and 1600D. Additionally, the thickness of the ribbon determines its unit price and tenacity).

Ribbons for clothing, shoes, bags, safety, and others.

Elastic ribbons and rigid ribbons (non-elastic ribbons).
5) Classification by Production Technique
Mainly divided into two categories: shuttle ribbons and knitting ribbons. Ribbons, especially jacquard ribbons, are similar to label production techniques. However, label production uses the weft yarn to express the design while ribbons usually use the warp yarn to express the design. It uses a small machine and can take a long time whenever it requires plate-making, thread weaving, and machine adjustments. However, it can produce a wide variety of products, which are not limited to a few designs only, unlike the labels. Ribbons primarily serve a decorative function, but they can also have a functional purpose, such as the popular mobile phone lanyards. After the ribbons are woven, they can still be screen printed with various texts and designs, which is generally cheaper than weaving the designs directly into the ribbons.
